The Bombay Flying Club (BFC) is the birth place of aviation in India. Established in 1928,JRD Tata, the Father of Aviation in India, acquired his Pilot’s License from this prestigious institute
The 1st Pilot License in India was issued to JRD Tata on 10th Feb 1929. JRD was not even 25.
I enter the scene :). Having done my ground classes (5 months), passed my SPL (Student Pilot License) Exam, I am ready to fly. Above is my pilot look in my BFC Uniform and Aviation headsets. As per DGCA rules, you MUST fly in uniform. India is still a long way away from US/UK, where they fly in their bermudas. And after 8 thrilling flying hours; I still have a long way to go..
The 4 subjects for PPL (Private Pilot License):
1. Technical : You need to know your machine. The Cessna 172 R; and it is a gem.
2. Meteorology: You need to know the flying space; pressure, temp, clouds, dew point...
3. Navigation: Lats, longs, co-ords, aircraft load...
4. Rules of the air : Where can you fly, where you can't, VFR, airport signs....
For PPL, you have to complete at-least 40 hours of flying in the Cessna 172R. Above is one of the 4 at Dhule airport which I fly.
For the checks, you have to demo:
1. You can do a cross country; e.g. take-off from Vadodara, hover over Surat and then land in Vadodara
2. Two take-offs and Landings at 2 different airports: Take-off from Vadodara and land in Surat. Take off from Surat and land in Dhule. Dhule-2-Vadodara. (and here you fly over the Statue of Unity; which is cool)
fingers crossed; but I am going to give a good try. Of course, I have to balance full time work and family.
And to fly just for 2 hours over the weekend, I have to travel to Dhule from Vadodara; 750 kms in total.
But, when I have my Private Pilots's License in India, it will be easy to get one in the UK; where they FLY LIKE BIRDS :)
